Bio
J. Craig Tompkins is an artist currently working on his MFA in electronic arts at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York. He received his bachelors in fine art from the University of Oklahoma concentrating on film and video. His artwork took on a different vector from traditional linear narrative film and video during his bachelors degree as his interest in sculpture and installation grew. His work then moved toward a more dispersed multimedia practice that has come to include 3D animation, video compositing, photography, model making, sculpture, video, and various other digital methods of production. Much of his work deals with issues relating to medical technology and specifically to the spaces of medical imaging and surgery as well as the machinery of these spaces. He is originally from Wynnewood, Oklahoma where he grew up among small farms, cattle ranches, and the large oil refinery that dominates the small town.
